Can I use breakout rooms from a Zoom Room? | Yes! For instructions, visit the Breakout Rooms section in the Zoom Room Guide. |
Can I use an additional microphone (clip-on/wireless/Bluetooth) with Zoom in a classroom? | Many of our classrooms will work with a wireless or wired microphone to amplify a voice in the room through the installed speakers. It will not be sent directly to Zoom. There is one installed microphone on the podium to capture the instructor’s voice. In Inclusive Access Classrooms, the installed lavalier microphone can be used for Zoom and in-room amplification. To check out a microphone to use in a classroom, email help-av@pdx.edu. |
Can the in-person students see the Zoom students? Can the Zoom students see the in-person students? | In all general pool classrooms, it is possible for in-person students to see Zoom attendees. In base classrooms, the only person-facing camera is integrated into the podium monitor, which faces the instructor. This limits Zoom students from seeing in-person students. In an Inclusive Access Classroom, there is an instructor facing camera at the back of the room. In both cases, there is not a dedicated in-person student facing camera. An alternative is to have your in-person students in the Zoom meeting with their cameras on. Always remember that additional devices in the room should not connect to audio (ie both microphone and speakers muted) to avoid audio feedback in the room. |
Does the Zoom touch panel need to use Zoom? Can it use Google Meet? | The technology in PSU’s General Pool Zoom Classrooms is proprietary to Zoom. Other meeting platforms like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams are not supported. |
Is there a listing of classrooms with Zoom? |

What email should be entered for recordings? | When recording a previously scheduled meeting, recordings will automatically be sent to the meeting host, entering an email is not required. When recording an ad hoc meeting, always enter the instructor’s email as the destination for the recording. You will receive an email from Zoom after the recording ends with a link to your video. Videos are deleted after 90 days. |
How do I get my Zoom recording into PSU Media Space? | When recording a pre-scheduled meeting, Zoom recordings will automatically be processed into your http://media.pdx.edu account. If you record an Ad Hoc meeting by selecting New Meeting and entering your email address, your recording will not automatically process into your http://media.pdx.edu account. All recordings are stored in Zoom for 90 days.

Are Zoom machine captions compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? | Zoom machine captions are not ADA compliant. If captions are needed for accessibility purposes, a request must be submitted to the DRC for accommodations to be made. Caption can be manually reviewed and edited for accuracy to become ADA compliant. |
Will there be captioning for Zoom meetings? | In a scheduled meeting, if the host has live captioning enabled in their account settings, machine-generated captioning will be available.
|
