Establishing a Remote Desktop Connection allows you access and remotely operate computers at PSU from other computers. Before following the below directions, first consult the Virtual Private Network (VPN) page on this website.

Prerequisites

To establish a remote desktop connection, the computer you are connecting to remotely will need to be exempted from the standard PSU power management settings. Otherwise it will power down to a "sleep" state and prevent you from connecting to it. For instructions on how to exempt your computer from these settings, go to the Power Management Standard.

Connecting to Your PSU Workstation

On-Campus Machine Setup

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > System.
  2. Select the "Remote settings" menu link on the left side.
  3. Ensure that the "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" box is checked (If this box is not checked, contact your administrator) .
  4. Record your full computer name, located in the "Computer Name" tab. You will need this to connect later.
  5. Your machine must be powered on and and connected to the PSU network to connect.
