When working remotely
Be sure to follow these guidelines when you work remotely:
- Review the PSU Telecommuting Policy, including Section V under General Provisions, which covers security.
- Remember that you are responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of PSU data while working remotely.
- Take care to ensure that mobile devices such as laptops are not at risk of being stolen (for example, visible in a parked car, or left in a public space).
- Whenever possible, use a PSU OIT-managed device to access confidential and restricted PSU data. Refer to PSU’s Information Security Policy (PDF) to review data classification definitions.
When using a personal computer to conduct PSU business
If you’re using a personal computer or other device for PSU business, follow these additional guidelines:
- Regularly install any available updates to your computer or device’s operating system, and install all available software and application updates and patches.
- Install antivirus software on your personal computer and run a full scan. Visit Install antivirus software for more information.
- Use a dedicated (not shared) user account on your personal computer for University business.
- Don’t download confidential or restricted data.
- Be sure that work-related materials are not accessible to others. For example, log out of all PSU systems when not in use, and/or set a device password.
- Use Remote Desktop or RemoteApp for Enterprise Applications to work with confidential or restricted data.
