You must connect to PSU’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access your H Drive or the I Drive from off campus.

Learn how to use your H Drive and the I Drives on a macOS device, including how to transfer files and map them to your home computer for convenient access from off campus.

Connect to the H and I Drives

  1. Go to Finder by selecting it on the Dock or select the desktop.

  2. Select Go > Connect to Server. 

  3. In the Server Address box, enter the address of the drive you want to access and select Connect.

  4. In the dialog that appears, enter the following information:

    1. Workgroup/Domain: PSU (If you are connecting from a personal device, macOS will not ask for a workgroup/domain.)

    2. Username: Your Odin username (macOS will sometimes capitalize your username. If this happens, clear the username box and re-enter your username using lowercase.)

    3. Password: Your Odin password

  5. Select OK.

  6. Optionally, map the drive for easier access later.

Map the H and I Drives 

You can map your H Drive or the I Drive to your computer for convenient access both on and off campus.

  1. Connect to your H Drive or the I Drive.

  2. Go to Finder by selecting it on the Dock or select the desktop.

  3. Select Go > Computer.

  4. Find the network drive you want to map.

  5. Select the Option+Command keys and drag the network drive to the desktop.

Check your H Drive Usage

  1. Select the Control key and select the drive.

  2. Select Get Info.

Directory Addresses

H Drive

Your H drive is for personal file storage. In the file paths below, replace "u" with the first letter of your Odin username, and replace "user" with your Odin username.

  • Faculty and Staff Home Directories: smb://emphome.psu.ds.pdx.edu/u/user/

  • Student Home Directories: smb://stuhome.psu.ds.pdx.edu/u/user/

I Drive

The I drive contains departmental directories and other shared network resources. 

  • Departmental Shared Directories: smb://departments.psu.ds.pdx.edu/

  • Projects Share: smb://projects.psu.ds.pdx.edu/

  • Student Org Share: smb://studentorgs.psu.ds.pdx.edu/

  • Instructor Share Directories: smb://instructors.psu.ds.pdx.edu/

  • Research Share Directories: smb://share.research.pdx.edu/

Note: The parent directory for I drive shares is smb://psu.ds.pdx.edu/resources/.
