Casting is the ability to directly connect devices owned by the same user.

The PSU Registered Wi-Fi network supports casting.

Supported Products and Technologies

PSU Registered Wi-Fi network supports Apple Airplay, Alexa, Chromecast, and any other technology that uses Multicast DNS (mDNS) for Wi-Fi device discovery and interconnectivity. This allows devices on the PSU Registered Wi-Fi network that are registered to the same user to talk to each other.

Wi-Fi Casting does not support:

  • Casting between devices registered to different users.

  • Casting between wireless and wired devices.

  • Casting between devices on other Wi-Fi networks such as PSU Secure, eduroam, and PSU Guest

Getting Started with Device Connections

To allow for devices to communicate with each other, they must be registered in the WiFi Device Registration section of oam.pdx.edu. You will need your device’s Media Access Control (MAC) address. Learn how to find a MAC address.
