PSU’s Inclusive Access Classroom (IAC) equips instructors with the tools to capture the in-person classroom experience and offer digital access for remote or asynchronous learning. Cameras and microphones cover the classroom, while remote participants are able to be seen and heard in the physical classroom. Zoom Whiteboard is available to use from the podium touchscreen for more interactive, digital teaching experiences. These features offer flexibility for live, remote, and asynchronous attendance.

This guide is intended to provide information specific to Zoom Rooms in IACs. For more detailed instructions on using Zoom Rooms, please refer to the Zoom Room Guide on the AV Technology Resources page.

We recommend that instructors familiarize themselves with the IAC technology before the first day of teaching by reviewing this guide and practicing with hands-on experience in a room.

Hardware in the Classroom

  • Extron touch panel to control AV in the classroom

  • Zoom touch screen where you can manage Zoom functions

  • Zoom Display (optional) to view participants and shared content (located in the back of the classroom)

  • Two Podium PC Displays, one that can be shared to the projector and/or Zoom

  • Document Camera

    • There is a light switch on the head of the document camera to illuminate the desired surface

  • Classroom capture camera with full pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ)

  • Step mat camera control to automate camera movement

  • Installed microphones to capture audio throughout the room

  • Lavalier/clip-on microphone for Zoom and/or sound reinforcement

Getting Started

Extron touch panel main screen. In the top left corner are options for projector input. In the lower left corner are system controls. In the center are options for camera controls. Right side are volume and microphone controls.

  • To use AV in an IAC classroom, select the System ON button located on the Extron touch panel.

  • Select the desired Projector Input (PC, DOC CAM, HDMI, VGA)

    • Note: If using Zoom, select the Zoom button to mirror the Zoom touch screen to the projector. The desired source input (PC, DOC CAM, HDMI, VGA) can still be selected.

  • To mute all AV in the room system, select the AV Mute button

  • Always remember to select System Off and confirm Power Down when finished using the system.

Camera Adjustments

The mounted camera can be repositioned to focus on any part of the classroom. Choose a preset to focus on a predetermined location, or select Camera Controls for full pan-tilt-zoom functionality.

IAC rooms are equipped with a step mat to automate camera movement. When on, the camera will focus on the step mat location when pressure is applied (ie standing or sitting on it), and will return to a wider front-of-room angle when pressure is released. Toggle this feature on or off using the “Step Mat Off” button on the Extron Control Panel.

Audio Adjustments

Detailed view of microphone and volume controls. From top to bottom, each input has a volume up button, a mute button, and a volume down button. From left to right, the inputs are Program, XLR 1, XLR 2, Lapel Mic, and Room Mics

To adjust the master volume of the input source, use the Program volume adjustment button located on the Extron touch panel.

For Zoom meeting volume, whether it be the participants in a Zoom meeting or the audio content they share, use the volume slider on the Zoom touch screen.

Adjust the volume of the microphones to capture in-room sound for remote participants from Mic Controls (Streaming Audio). Change the room and/or Lapel lavalier (wireless) microphone volume(s) as needed.

The lapel lavalier microphone can also be used for in-room sound reinforcement by selecting the PA LOCK button on the Mic Controls page.

Select GLOBAL MIC MUTE to mute all microphone inputs simultaneously. A flashing red mute button indicates that the source is muted.

Share Content to Zoom

The main camera is mounted in the back of the room. If you would like to allow both your camera view and other content to be seen at the same time, there are two options.

The first is to use the Share Content option. Remember to select the Zoom button on the Extron touch panel to duplicate the Zoom touch screen to the projector.

  1. Select the desired input source (PC, DOC CAM, HDMI, VGA) on the Extron touch panel.

    1. If using the resident PC, sign in using your PSU credentials.

    2. If using a personal device, use the provided HDMI cable and plug in to the front of the podium. Note: If you need an adapter to connect to the HDMI cable, you can borrow one from the library checkout desk.

  2. On the Zoom touch screen, select Share Content.

  3. Select the Camera tab, then select Podium

You will automatically begin sharing content. To stop sharing, select Stop Current Sharing.

The second option to allow both the main camera and another source to be seen is to use Multi-Camera Mode. When on, the input source is always shared to Zoom and seen as another camera/participant.

  1. To enable, select “Switch Camera” on the Zoom touch screen and

  2. Turn on the toggle switch next to Podium under Multi-Camera Mode

Switch camera menu in Zoom. Toggle switch to turn on multi-camera mode for the podium input is highlighted

Note: If Zoom Whiteboard is being used, sharing content is not available.

Using Zoom Whiteboard

Zoom Whiteboard can now be utilized in IACs for both remote and in person attendance. Access it from the Zoom touch panel under the More “...”. Pick a board, then add and manipulate content using the Zoom touch display. If Zoom is chosen as the projector input, both in-person and remote attendees will see the Zoom Whiteboard.

Note: If content is currently being shared, Zoom Whiteboard is not available.
