Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

To remotely access your Unix home directory and personal web space, or your shares on I:\research, you can use Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) after connecting to PSU’s Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Refer to VPN Connections Using Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for more information regarding how to connect to PSU’s VPN.

Recommended Applications for SFTP

To establish an SFTP connection, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) recommends the following applications:

  • WinSCP for Windows

  • Cyberduck for macOS

If you’re using a PSU-owned, non-lab or classroom computer, one of these applications may already be installed. Both are available in Self-Service Software if they’re not already installed.

If you’re on a personal computer, you can install these applications by visiting the WinSCP 6.3 Download web page for WindowsOSor the Cyberduck Download web page for macOS.

Setup Your SFTP Connection

The Guides for Using WinSCP website provides instructions on how to connect to an SFTP server using WinSCP. Cyberduck Help offers additional support documentation, including a Quick Reference Guide to help you open an SFTP connection and transfer files.

Depending on which folders you wish to access, use the relevant settings from the table below. Enter your Odin username and password in the Username and Password fields.
