PSU Media Space Captioning

OIT provides human captioning for public-facing (non-academic) content generated by faculty and staff. For academic content, the Office of Academic Innovation can provide human captioning services. However, machine captions are available through PSU Media Space. Machine captions do not meet ADA accessibility requirements, but are a great way to quickly and easily generate captions for your media. You also have access to a caption editor where you can clean up your machine caption requests.

Generate Machine Captions

Machine caption files are typically generated within 30 minutes of the request. Once the files have been generated, you must manually enable them on your media.

  1. Select Login from the PSU User drop down menu in PSU Media Space.

  2. Log in using PSU’s Single Sign-On (SSO) page.

  3. Expand the drop-down menu with Your Name, then select My Media.

  4. Select the title of the video you want to caption from your My Media list. This will open your video’s Media Space page.

  5. Expand the Actions drop-down menu beneath your video.

  6. In the resulting menu, select Captions & Enrich.

  7. Complete the captions order request using the following settings:

    1. Service: Machine

    2. Source Media Language: English (If your video is not in English, expand the Source Media Language drop-down and select the appropriate language.)

    3. Feature: Captions

  8. Select Submit to request machine captions.

Enable Machine Captions

  1. Select Login from the PSU User drop down menu in PSU Media Space.

  2. Log in using PSU’s Single Sign-On (SSO) page.

  3. Expand the drop-down menu with Your Name, then select My Media.

  4. Navigate to the video you want to edit and select the pencil-shaped Edit button to the right of the video.

  5. Select the Captions tab below the media.

  6. To display a video’s machine captions, select the Show On Player icon. Select the Show On Player icon again if you want to stop displaying machine captions.

Caption Editor

  1. Select Login from the PSU User drop down menu in PSU Media Space.

  2. Log in using PSU’s Single Sign-On (SSO) page.

  3. Expand the drop-down menu with Your Name, then select My Media.

  4. Navigate to the video you want to edit and select the pencil-shaped Edit button to the right of the video.

  5. Select the Captions tab below the media.

  6. Select Edit Captions.

  7. On this page you can edit the text and time codes. Use the play button to view the current captions.

  8. Once your edits are saved, select the Back button to go back to your video.
