Casting on PSU Registered WiFi Network

The PSU Registered WiFi network supports casting: the ability to directly connect devices owned by the same user.

Supported Products and Technologies

PSU Registered WiFi network supports Apple Airplay, Alexa, Chromecast, and any other technology that uses mDNS (Multicast DNS) for WiFi device discovery and interconnectivity. This allows devices on the PSU Registered WiFi network registered to the same user to talk to each other.

Note: WiFi Casting does not support:

  • Casting between devices registered to different users.

  • Casting between wireless and wired devices.

  • Casting between clients on other WiFi networks (PSU Secure, eduroam, PSU Guest)

Getting Started

To allow for devices to communicate with each other, they must be registered in the WiFi Device Registration section of oam.pdx.edu. To register, users will use their device’s Media Access Control (MAC) address. Reference OIT’s article on how to Find a Media Access Control Address for tutorials on how to find the MAC address on various devices.
