H and I Drives Overview

Everyone with an Odin account is given storage space on PSU’s network, on the H and I drives. On these drives, you can save and access files from on or off campus. The H drive is intended for personal file storage, while the I drive is a shared storage area used by staff and faculty departments.

Security and Access

H and I drives are backed up every night and are a good place to store important files. If your hard drive ever crashes, its files may not be recoverable — but if you have made copies of your most important files on the network drive, they will be backed up.

Access to H drives is automatically granted to every Odin account owner. I drive access is granted separately, and department resource managers can request access through the I Drive Access Form. Only resource managers can submit the I drive access form; if you are not a resource manager, you must request that one submit the form on your behalf.

Storage Capacity

H and I drives have different storage capacities, depending on their associations. The capacity of your drive is based on your role at the university.

  • Student H drives: 1 GB

  • Faculty and staff H drives: 10 GB

  • Shared I drives: varies

To check how much space you're currently using on your H drive, follow the instructions on Use H and I Drives on Windows or  Use H and I Drives on macOS.

Students or affiliates who run out of space on their drives will need to move or delete files. If you're doing work for a department, consult with your department about requesting access to some space on the department’s I drive.

Upload and Download to H and I Drives

You can securely access your H and I drives from any computer that is connected to the internet. For specific instructions, visit Use H and I drives on Windows or Use H and I Drives on macOS. For more information on where to put your files in the I drive, visit I Drive Network File Shares.
