Digital Accessibility Liaison (DAL) Group

The DAL Group brings together individuals from across the University to advance PSU’s digital accessibility maturity—building awareness, learning and applying new skills, and becoming distributed advocates for accessible digital design and procurement across campus. The mission of the DAL Group is to:

• Collaborate on digital accessibility initiatives to meet institutional goals

• Share critical feedback and digital accessibility advice

• Support compliance with relevant digital accessibility standards

• Engage in digital accessibility training and capacity building

Providing equitable access to digital resources is a core tenet of the University’s Mission to Let Knowledge Serve the City through PSU’s guiding principle, Providing Equitable Access to a Quality Education. The Federal Digital Accessibility Requirements to which PSU is accountable reinforce the criticality of this work, as PSU employees now have an increased responsibility to ensure the digital accessibility of both internal and public-facing digital resources. The DAL Group creates space for group members to build strong foundational knowledge in digital accessibility best practices and apply that knowledge across the University.

What to Expect as a DAL

The DAL Group convenes monthly for hybrid meetings both in person and online. A DAL steering committee prepares content, plans logistics, and ensures clear communication and facilitation for the group. As a DAL, you’ll provide input on topics you want to discuss, be invited to share resources and challenges, learn new skills, and discuss best practices. This is a community of shared learning and support, as we collectively champion the creation and use of accessible digital content across PSU.

As a DAL you are among an array of staff and faculty learning, sharing, and collaborating over digital accessibility. You have access to:

• Substantive Resources → You have access to a dedicated Google Drive for sharing accessible digital design checklists, guides, templates, and training materials. DAL’s will likewise benefit from monthly discussions and periodic presentations on digital accessibility best practices and implementation strategies.

• Supportive Community → You will have the ability to access and post questions, best practices, and suggestions to an active, private listserv facilitated by the DAL Group Steering Committee. You will have opportunities to network with colleagues, through regular asynchronous dialogue, monthly meetings, and training.

• Training and Support → You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of digital accessibility training topics, and engage in subject specific discussions. You have direct access to a support system to advance your unit’s progress to reach your digital accessibility goals.

Engage with a Committed DAL Steering Committee

The DAL Group Steering Committee provides leadership to ensure that the DAL Group mission is realized. The Chair is appointed by PSU’s Chief Information Officer and is responsible for leading the DAL Group.
