Odin Accounts Overview

All Portland State University (PSU) students, faculty, and staff receive computer accounts known as Odin accounts. Before you can use your Odin account, you must Activate your Odin Account and create your password. If you need access to PSU technology resources but don't qualify for an Odin account, you may qualify for a non-standard computer account such as an Affiliate account.

Know when Your Odin Account Expires

Your Odin account is active as long as you are attending or working at PSU. One year after the end of your last term as a student, or at the end of your last day of employment, your account will no longer be considered active.

Student Odin Account Expiration

Your Odin account has a grace period of one year from the end of your last term of attendance. When the grace period ends, your Odin account will be disabled and you will no longer have access to resources such as University-sponsored Gmail.

Adjunct Faculty Odin Account Expiration

Your Odin account has a grace period of one year from the end of the last term you taught; when the grace period ends your account will be disabled.

For more information about account expiration and grace periods, see the Odin Account Standard.

Change your Odin Account Name

PSU is happy to offer Odin username changes to students, faculty, and staff in certain situations. Please contact the OIT Help Desk to see if you qualify.

Plan for Your PSU Google Account Expiration

It's important to be aware of when your account is going to expire, and to have a plan for migrating any data you have stored.

  • For registered students, Google accounts expire one year from the end of their last term of attendance.

  • For employees, Google account expiration varies by type of faculty or staff; visit the Odin Account Standard for more information.

We recommend using Google Takeout as a resource for moving most of your data in and out of Google accounts. For more information, visit the Google Account Help article Download your data.

Optimize Your Experience with Your PSU Google Account

Avoid using your Odin account and @pdx.edu email to sign up for external services such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Netflix, or Amazon. Your Odin account will expire when your affiliation with the University ends, limiting your ability to reset passwords or receive billing and other notices from the external service. Use your personal email address to sign up for external services instead, and your PSU email for PSU business only.

As you interact with tools on the web, some of them will offer to pair with your PSU Google account. This is fine, as long as you trust the vendor or service. The prompt requesting access will detail what access is being granted; be sure to review everything you are granting access to. If you want to review your connected sites, apps, and services, you can do so by visiting Google's Third-Party Apps and Services web page.

Note: An Odin name change affects many different systems; therefore, ID verification will be required by OIT Help Desk personnel during this process to protect your account information.
