To connect some devices (such as gaming consoles or TV streaming devices) to the internet using Portland State’s Wi-Fi network, you must first register them using their Media Access Control (MAC) address.

About Internet Device Registration

Network security policies in on-campus housing require you to register any electronic device that connects to our network with an Odin username. With computers, registration is done when you access the internet for the first time with a web browser. Since other devices (such as game consoles or streaming media boxes) may not have web browsers, they can’t register themselves in the same way. Instead, you must register them using their Media Access Control (MAC) address.

A MAC address, also known as a physical address, is an address associated with a Network Interface Card (NIC) on an electronic device. Every NIC has its own unique MAC address, which allows a device to be uniquely identified on a network.
