titleMaking relative links

Relative links are links that don’t require the full URL because they link to a page on the same domain (eg. www.pdx.edu) as the source page. Fully external links require the full URL.

In your site, there are three kinds of relative links you can make. These instructions are not all-encompassing, but you can use them as a starting point:

Links internal to your site (for CTA and Link paragraphs)

  1. In the URL field, begin typing the page title.

  2. Select the correct page title from the list of options that appears.

    • Only published pages will show up in the list of options.

Links external to your site but internal to www.pdx.edu (for CTA and Link paragraphs)

  1. Enter the URL into the URL field.

  2. Replace http://www.pdx.edu/ with /../

    • Example: /../student-life/campus-life

Relative links in Text paragraphs

  1. In the link popup, select "Other" as the protocol

  2. In the URL, replace the https://www.pdx.edu/ with /../.

    • Example: /../admissions/how-to-apply

Anchor links

An anchor link is a link that directs a person direct visitors to a specific part section of a page (the anchor). Anchors are generally inserted further down a page, with a link of anchor links near , rather than the top of the page (much like a table fo contents). That way visitors can quickly jump to their desired destination on the page.

You can only make anchors (the destination of the anchor link) in text blocks, but you can make the links in any block that has a URL field.

You must make the anchor before you can link to it.

To make an anchor:a page. Terms you’ll want to be familiar with:

  • Anchor: the destination; where the link directs the visitor. These can only be made in Text paragraphs.

  • Anchor link: the link that takes a visitor to the anchor. These can be made in any paragraph type.

Make an anchor

  1. Add or edit a Text paragraph.

  2. Place your cursor where you want the anchor to be. Important: do visitor to end up (the final destination)

    • Do not highlight any text

    - highlighted text will look like a link. Just
    • , just place the cursor

    near some text.Click
    • at the start of the text

  3. Select the Anchor button (it looks like a flag) in from the formatting menu of the text block.Insert

  4. Type in the anchor name in the popup that appears. It

    • Anchor names must be all one word (no spaces)

, and capitalization is important. For
    • - example: anchorname

  5. Click Ok.

You can now use that anchor to link to from within the page. Follow the instructions for adding anchor links in Links in text blocks or Fillable link/CTA text and URL fields.

If linking to the anchor from an external source (such as linking to it from another page or including the link in an email or a Facebook post), use this URL structure:

https://www.pdx.edu/site-name/page-name#anchor-name
    • Pay attention to your capitalization, it must be replicated in the anchor link

Add an anchor link to a page

Once the anchor is made, link to it by adding #anchorname, replacing anchorname with the actual anchor name, after the URL.

Example: pdx.edu/current-student#classesregistration. In this example the anchor name is “classesregistration” and the anchor exists on the Current Student page.

Images

Files and images should be limited to 2MB (2,000KB). In general, there is no reason for an image to be larger than 1MB (1,000KB). You can upload larger files, however once you reach a certain file size the file/image will upload but not function. This limit is in place to ensure all your files will work as intended, while still giving enough room to upload a high quality image or file.
