When Working Remotely

Be sure to follow these guidelines when you work remotely:

  • Review the PSU Remote Work Guidelines, including Section O under General Provisions, which addresses security and confidentiality of PSU data.

  • Remember that you are responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of PSU data while working remotely.

  • Take care to ensure that mobile devices such as laptops are not at risk of being stolen (for example, visible in a parked car, or left in a public space).

  • Ensure full-disk encryption is enabled on your devices and use a strong PIN.

  • Whenever possible, use a PSU OIT-managed device to access confidential and restricted PSU data. Refer to PSU’s Information Security Policy (PDF) to review data classification definitions.

When Using a Personal Computer to Conduct PSU Business

If you’re using a personal computer or other device for PSU business, follow these additional guidelines:

  • Regularly install any available updates to your computer or device’s operating system, and install all available application updates and patches.

  • Install antivirus software on your personal computer and run a full scan. Visit Install antivirus software for more information.

  • Use a dedicated (not shared) user account on your personal computer for University business.

  • Don’t download confidential or restricted data.

  • Be sure that work-related materials are not accessible to others. For example, log out of all PSU systems when not in use, and/or set a device password.

  • Use Remote Desktop or Employee Virtual Desktop to work with confidential or restricted data.
