If you live in the PSU residence halls and are having trouble connecting to the internet via your wired connection, you can try doing some troubleshooting on your own before contacting the OIT Help Desk.

Not all residence halls are equipped with network ports. Please reference Residential Networking Jacks for more information about wired network access in your dorm.

Troubleshoot Your Connection

Before troubleshooting your connection, try rebooting your machine and check if that resolves your issue.

DMCA Violations

Your access may have been blocked because of virus activity or a DMCA violation. If so, your web browser will display a message with a ticket number and a reason you’ve been blocked. You should also receive an email notifying you about the problem.

To resolve this issue, contact the Help Desk and provide the ticket number to our staff. The Help Desk employee will explain what steps must be taken to have your access restored.

Physical Connection

You should verify the physical connection between the your machine and the network port is secure (for example, that everything is plugged in properly). Please reference Residential Networking Jacks for more information about the location of ports in your dorm.

Additional Resources

If none of these solutions resolve your connection problems, please contact the OIT Help Desk. If OIT Help Desk cannot resolve your issue over the phone, you may be required to bring your device to the OIT Help Desk in the Fariborz Maseeh Hall (FMH) Student Services Lobby.

Before contacting us, try to identify your machine’s MAC address. For instructions, please reference Find a Media Access Control (MAC) address. This information will be helpful for the OIT Help Desk technician(s) attempting to resolve your problem.

If you are having trouble connecting to the internet from a wireless connection, please reference Troubleshooting Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi).
