Email Types at PSU
This article is an overview of the different ways to send and receive mass or group emails at PSU. For more in-depth information on managing and maintaining these accounts, please visit the page for the specific type that best suits your needs. All options listed below are required to follow PSU’s Email Communication Policy.
Shared Emails
Shared Emails create a shared inbox for delegates to send/receive email. You may want to consider a Shared Email for the following reasons:
You or your department have several people who need to access the same incoming email.
You or your department have a need for an inbox that can grant access to people in positions which may be temporary, short-term, or refilled regularly.
You or your department would like to have a single ingress point for specific inquiries (such as a study, or a specific sub-department).
Google Groups
Google Groups create a single account that can share information with a population of people and can be simultaneously used as a permissions management group for Google docs. You may want to consider a Google Group for the following reasons:
You or your department would like to send out information to a specific population of users.
You or your department would like to send out emails while disabling the recipients ability to respond.
You or your department have a need for access management to other Google applications or documents.
Mass Emails, Campus-wide Communications
If you are looking to email 500 or more recipients, OIT recommends reading University Communications Mass Email Requirements, Guidelines, and Best Practices.
