Everyone with an Odin account is given storage space on PSU’s network, on the H and I drivesDrives. On these drives, you can save and access files from on or off campus. The H drive Drive is intended for personal file storage, while the I drive Drive is a shared storage area used by staff and faculty departments.

Security and Access

H and I drives Drives are backed up every night and are a good place to store important files. If your computer’s hard drive ever crashes, its files may not be recoverable — but if you have made copies of your most important files on the a network drive, like the H or I Drive, they will be backed up.

Access to the H drives Drive is automatically granted to every Odin account owner.

I drive Drive access is granted separately, and by department resource managers can request access through via the I Drive Access Formform. Only resource managers can submit the I drive access form; if . If you are not a resource manager, you must request that one submit the form ask a resource manager to submit a request for I Drive access on your behalf.

Storage Capacity

H

and I drives have different storage capacities, depending on their associations.

Drive

The capacity of your drive H Drive is based on your role at the university.

  • Student H drivesDrive: 1 GB

  • Faculty and staff H drivesDrive: 10 GBShared I drives: varies

Students or affiliates who run out of space on their drives will need to move or delete files.

The capacity of the I Drive varies per department. If you're doing work for a department, consult with your department about requesting access to some space on the department’s I driveDrive

Upload and Download to H and I Drives

Further Resources

If you have modified or accidentally deleted a file or folder from your H Drive or the I driveDrive, it may be possible to restore it using Previous Versions in the Windows operating system. For specific instructions, refer to Restore a File From Your H or  Learn how to restore a file from your H Drive or the I Drive.

To request a new folder within I:\Staff, contact the Helpdesk. If your department has a point of contact for Departmental departmental IT Supportsupport (also known as a TAG), they can make the request for you by filling out completing Network File Shares Request.
