Security and AccessH and I drives are backed up every night and are a good place to store important files. If your hard drive ever crashes, its files may not be recoverable — but if you have made copies of your most important files on the network drive, they will be backed up. Access to H drives is automatically granted to every Odin account owner. I drive access is granted separately, and department resource managers can request access through the I Drive Access Form. Only resource managers can submit the I drive access form; if you are not a resource manager, you must request that one submit the form on your behalf. Storage CapacityH and I drives have different storage capacities, depending on their associations. The capacity of your drive is based on your role at the university.
To check how much space you're currently using on your H drive, follow the instructions on Use H and I Drives on Windows or Use H and I Drives on macOS. Students or affiliates who run out of space on their drives will need to move or delete files. If you're doing work for a department, consult with your department about requesting access to some space on the department’s I drive. Upload and Download to H and I DrivesYou can securely access your H and I drives from any computer that is connected to the internet. For specific instructions, visit Use H and I drives on Windows or Use H and I Drives on macOS. For more information on where to put your files in the I drive, visit I Drive Network File Shares. Further ResourcesIf you have modified or accidentally deleted a file or folder from your H or I drive, it may be possible to restore it using Previous Versions in the Windows operating system. For specific instructions, refer to Restore a File From Your H or I Drive. To request a new folder within I:\Staff, contact the Helpdesk. If your department has a point of contact for Departmental IT Support (also known as a TAG), they can make the request for you by filling out a Network File Shares Request. Related Articles
