This guide is for Portland State University faculty and staff who are interested in purchasing a departmental printer. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) strongly recommends purchasing one of the models available on the ePSU Marketplace, all of which conform to the OIT support standards.

Purchasing Printers

University purchase orders are done through the ePSU Marketplace, PSU's online purchasing portal. To access the ePSU Marketplace, you need to be an authorized pCard user. You can start an ePSU Marketplace account by submitting the ePSU Marketplace Access Request and Agreement Form.

Viewing Recommended Printer Models

All the printer configurations on the ePSU Marketplace have been tested by OIT. To view a list of recommended printers, do the following:

  1. Log in to the ePSU Marketplace.
  2. Select the vendor "CDW".
Result: A window will appear with the recommended printer options.

From this window, you'll be able to select a model that fits your department's needs best. Both black & white and color printers are available, as well as printers designed to handle different volumes of users.

Buying Other Printer Models

While OIT strongly recommends you purchase one of the printer models available on the ePSU Marketplace, you may purchase other printers. Please keep in mind that they must adhere to the following standards to be supported by OIT and assigned a printer queue on the PSU network:

  • Has drivers for Printer Command Language (PCL) 6 or drivers for Postscript (PS) that are compatible with Windows 7.
Note: PCL is preferred. However, if you require PS drivers, OIT will support this, as long as the drivers are model-specific and are compatible with Windows 7.
  • Has its own processor (listed in the technical specifications).
  • Does not require a connection to the server via USB cable or wireless.
  • Does not require software to be installed on the print server (excepting printer drivers).
  • No labels
