Zoom Rooms for Classroom Guide

All of PSU’s General Pool classrooms have Zoom Classroom features enabled. Using Zoom Classroom, you can easily connect a group of people sharing that physical space with people learning or working remotely and record lectures for later viewing.

We recommend that instructors get familiar with the Zoom Classroom technology prior to the first day of teaching, by reviewing this guide and practicing with hands-on experience in a room. For a quick reference guide please refer to the Zoom Classroom Quick Start article.

For The Best Zoom Room Experience, Instructors Should Schedule a Zoom Meeting in Advance And Add Its Link To Their Course's Calendar Event.

In-Classroom Basics

Hardware in the Classroom

Note: when using Zoom Technology, be sure to stay at the podium. The camera and microphone will not pick you up if you move too far away from it.

  • In each classroom, you’ll see the Extron control panel at the podium.

  • If you’re using the projector, select the Display ON button located on the Extron control panel.

  • You’ll also see the Logitech touch panel, or TAP where you can control Zoom functions.

Share Content or Camera

The main camera is always the built-in camera, which is set into the top center of the monitor’s bezel.

If you would like to allow both your camera view and other content to be seen at the same time, you can use the Screen Share option.

You have multiple options to share content from another device. To select a shared content source, use the input selector buttons on the Extron control panel to switch between sources (PC, DOC CAM, BLU-RAY, HDMI, LAPTOP, VIDEO). If the display button is ON, the source will also be projected on the classroom screen.

Note: When you share content with audio, be sure to turn down the in-room volume on the Extron control panel, otherwise your audio will be doubled.

Resident PC (Recommended)

  1. Sign in to the resident PC using your PSU credentials. Note: you don’t need to sign in to Zoom on the resident PC unless you want to share content.

  2. Select PC as the input device on the Extron control panel.

  3. On the Logitech TAP, select Share Content or Camera.

  4. Select the Desktop tab, then under “Use HDMI”, select Start Sharing. Logitech Tap HDMI Capture as your device.

You will automatically begin sharing content. To stop sharing, select Stop Current Sharing.

Doc Cam (Recommended)

If you are wanting to share content with students in the most visible way for both in-class instruction as well as distance learning, then Doc Cam usage is the preferred tool.

  1. Select Doc Cam as the input device on the Extron control panel.

  2. On the Logitech TAP, select Share Content or Camera.

  3. Select the Doc Cam tab, then under “Use HDMI” select Start Sharing.

You will automatically begin sharing content. To stop sharing, select Stop Current Sharing.

Personal Device via HDMI Cable

  1. Plug in your device to the provided HDMI cable attached to the Extron control panel.

  2. Select HDMI as the input device on the Extron control panel.

  3. On the Logitech TAP, select Share Content or Camera.

  4. Select the Desktop tab, then under “Use HDMI” select Start Sharing.

You will automatically begin sharing content. To stop sharing, select Stop Current Sharing.

  1. Note: If you need an adapter to connect to the HDMI cable, you can borrow one from the library checkout desk.

Volume Adjustments in a Zoom Classroom

  • To adjust the master volume of the speakers in the classroom, use the volume knob located on the Extron control panel

  • To adjust the volume of the Zoom meeting (the participants in a Zoom meeting or the audio content they share), use the volume sliding bar on the Logitech TAP.

Sources Are Not Coming Through the Projector

  • If your source is not coming through the projector, make sure the input on the front of the Extron rackmount unit at the front of the podium is set to the source you wish to use:

    • Laptop = 1

    • Video = 2

    • PC = 3

    • Doc Cam = 4

    • Blu-Ray = 5

    • HDMI = 6

  • If input is not showing, confirm that your desired device is powered on, and press the corresponding source button on the Extron control panel.

  • Confirm that the AV Mute button is not on.

"ON" Button Flashes Then Goes Back to "OFF"

If you turn on the projector using the Extron control panel and the "ON" button flashes then goes back to "OFF", the switcher is likely to be out of sync with the projector. Power cycle the switcher by unplugging it for a few seconds and then plug it back in the projector.

Audio Feedback in the Room

Make sure there is only one device in the physical room that is connected to Zoom audio. Note: This includes student devices. Any microphones or speakers in the room other than the room system can cause audio feedback. If other computers in the room are connected to audio, their volume should be turned all the way down and the microphone muted.
