Technology Administrators Group (TAG)

The Technology Administrators Group (TAG) is composed of campus Information Technology (IT) professionals who work on and support applications, systems, and networks at Portland State University.

The TAG includes PSU's central IT group (the Office of Information Technology) and departmental IT support staff.

TAG Mission

The TAG provides a forum for IT professionals to:

  • Exchange information and ideas.

  • Collaborate on IT initiatives to meet institutional goals.

  • Provide feedback and advice to each other.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant policy.

  • Engage in training.

How to Join

Any PSU staff or faculty member with at least .5 FTE dedicated to managing or supporting PSU IT assets is welcome and encouraged to join the Technology Administrators Group (TAG). If you meet the eligibility requirements and would like to join the TAG, fill out the TAG membership request form in the PSU Help Center.

The Technology Administrators Group website contains numerous support resources for TAG members, including training and reference documentation, mailing lists, and discussion groups.

Technical Services

TAG members can request server hosting, SSL certificates, storage, and other technical services (see the OIT catalog of Supporting services for details.)

Endpoint Fleet Administration

TAG members who administer a fleet of desktop computers may be eligible to receive administrative privileges and access to a suite of endpoint management tools.

Admin and Privileged Accounts

TAG members can request a privileged user account to manage their IT assets.

Atlassian Jira Service Desk and Confluence

TAG members get a free license to use Atlassian Jira Service Desk and Confluence, OIT’s service request (ticketing) and internal knowledge management tools.

More Direct Access to OIT

As partners in support of IT on campus, TAG members can contact back-end OIT teams directly without the need to route through the front-line OIT Helpdesk first, and have physical access to OIT office space in the Fourth Avenue Building.

OIT Change Control and Alerts

TAG members can keep informed of campus IT system changes and outages through OIT’s Change Control and Alerts notifications.

Mailing Lists

Several mailing lists are available for TAG members to:

  • Communicate information targeted at campus technology administrators.

  • Communicate between campus desktop/client administrators regarding OS deployment, software packaging, desktop security, patching, power management, client configurations, and Mobile Device Management (MDM).

  • Notify IT units of Odin computer account renames so downstream systems and applications that use Odin credentials for authentication can be updated.

Slack Chat

TAG members can join OIT’s Slack instance and participate in the #general channel to locate resources and information, get assistance with troubleshooting complex issues, escalate urgent issues, participate in emergency communication, and share information. TAG members can also be invited to other channels by OIT staff.
