I Drive Network File Shares

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) hosts network file shares for different uses on campus. The I Drive is a shared storage area used by staff and faculty departments for data that has value to the university. There are several share locations that can contain your data; use this article to determine which share location is right for your files.

Note: Files that you don't want to share with anyone else should go on your H Drive.

Share Locations

  • I:\Students\Instructors: The Instructors share is intended for instructors who need to share files with their students.

  • I:\Projects: The Projects share is intended for ongoing projects that need a place to share files with multiple individuals. The Projects share is ideal for situations that require exclusive folder permissions or file sharing between departments, such as a hiring committee.

  • I:\Staff: The Staff (Departments) share is intended to be used by PSU departments to share files with co-workers.

  • I:\Research: The Research share is intended for ongoing academic research projects that need a place to share files with multiple individuals. The Research share is ideal for situations that may require a large amount of storage, require access from OIT research computational servers and/or desktop systems, or have data that require long-term backups (appropriate for grant data management).
